Seven Vintage 1967 Tops "Rubber Uglies" incl Elanor, Dorothy, Fred, John, and "almost" Irene. Condition is "used." Default shipping is USPS Priority Mail.I bought these when I was a kid at the local 5 & 10 cent store, or from a "bubblegum machine" that had them in plastic "eggs".
These have been stored since that time in a smoke free environment, but they were stored for a couple decades in the uninsulated attic at my parents' house. Thus, these were subjected to cold MN winters and hot summers. That combination may have caused some of the damage and/or shrinkage exhibited by some of these "uglies".
I did not remember these having names except that they equated to some stickers that preceded them. However, I found an online reference that identified some of them by name, which is what I used to identify them. The reference also mentiond that there were some "mutant hybrids" which may be why two of these are "almost" someone.
Some have obviously shrunk and it's possible all have. I will highlight one of the "John" uglies that is noticeably smaller than the other one. I included some pictures with a tape measure and quarter (coin) for size reference.
There are two "John" figures
shown in pictures 2, 3, 4, and 5 I think the legs are all complete. The larger purple-ish one seems undamaged unless you count what I think was an air bubble on the bottom (see picture 3, it's to the left of the main center hole). He may have had pupils on his eyes that have worn off. The smaller, greenish John is noticeably smaller. Except for the shrinkage I think it is undamaged.
"Fred" and "Eleanor
" are shown in pictures 6, 7, and 8. "Fred", the dark blue one is missing an eye. His right eye should be "hanging off" to the side. "Eleanor", the green one, has a verticle split or cut that extends up the middler of her one big eye. I squeezed her a little bit in picture 7 to show this split or cut.
"Dorothy" and "almost Irene" are shown in pictures 10, 11, and 12, along with one that is "almost Dorothy".
"almost Irene"
is the front one in picture 10. The "Irene" figure in the reference I found has three extra legs extending in front of her mouth. I don't find any evidence that they were on this figure - I don't believe they were there and broke off, but I can't guarantee that.. She's different from the official "Irene" because she has hairs or tiny spikes all salong her six legs and the official Irene has smooth legs. So I think this is undamaged beyond possible/likely shrinkage.
"Dororthy
" is the yellow-ish one on the right in picture 8. She should have two tiny legs coming out the front at the bottom of her mouth. Those broke off and I see where they had been attached. Like the purple "John", she probably had pupils on hie eyes that wore off.
Two of her legs are damaged, the front two on her left side. On her front left leg is a "bump" near her body that is hard and a glossy. Either it was a melt spot that hardened, or a drop of glue. I don't see a break on the bottom so I don't think it was done to fix the leg, I think it was/is something that probably happened during a particularly hot summer day while stored in my parents' attic.
I think she lost about half of her second left leg. You can see the leg is "short" in pictures 10-12 and it is missing the end that should coil a bit..
"almost Dorothy
" is the one on the left next to "Dorothy" She is different from the online reference "Dorothy" because she has the spike on the top of her head. I think she is undamaged. There are some white spots on her left side and a couple of her left legs but that looks like the same white as her teeth, so I think that's just how she was manufactured.
Please examine the pictures for the condition of these uglies. I tried to discuss each one individually and identify the flaws I recognize, but I may have missed something.
I am listing some other toys and items from my childhood and if the winning bidder is the high bidder on multiple items I will combine shipping as much as is practical. I think all of these will fit into a small flat rate Priority Mail box and I have set up the listing to reflect that. If the winning bidder prefers First Class mail to save a little postage, we can discuss that and I will try to accomodate.
