    Description

Here is an interesting cultural artifact.  Back in the 1940-1950s, a prize producing company manufactured some carnival chalkware souvenirs to try to appear African-American or Black.  This is an African-American woman as hula dancer, complete with dark red lei.  She is about 13" tall and is hand-painted.  Her anklets are yellow, the base green.  She still has a bit of her original glitter on her tummy.  She has about 10% loss of paint across her entire body.  Her legs and the side and bottom of the base have the most paint loss, including all of the right side of the base (see photos).  She has a small chip in her left elbow that a previous owner carefully painted over so well that  I didn't even notice it when I bought her years ago.  This 'is what it is,' to quote a great American philosopher (Rodney Dangerfield, I think).  Nice souvenir.  These are hard to find.  Be the buyer!
I have too large a collection of carnival chalkware and will be putting up some very nice and hard to find pieces over the next few weeks.  All will be priced to sell and carefully packed.  Be the buyer!
Please check the photograph(s); they are an important part of the description.  If you have questions, please ask before bidding.
